A new postdoc position is available

The laboratory of Uhn-Soo Cho (http://www.uscho-lab.com/) at University of Michigan Medical School is seeking a postdoctoral fellow with dynamic interests in solving important biological questions using structural, biochemical, and biophysical techniques. University of Michigan provides an exciting environment to learn and conduct various structural biological techniques. We have a monthly-basis access to the Advanced Photon Source (APS, LS-CAT) at the Argonne National Laboratory as well as the in-house cryo-EM facility including an FEI Titan Krios 300 kV FEG electron microscope (K2 Summit Direct Detector), FEI Arctica 200 kV FEG electron microscope (K2 Summit Direct Detector), FEI G2 Spirit T12 TWIN (Dual CCDs), and 100 kV Morgagni (Gatan Orius CCD).

The Cho lab conducts x-ray crystallography and cryo-EM to determine the structures of biologically important proteins to understand basic mechanisms of (1) centromere biology and kinetochore assembly, (2) Sestrin-mediated mTORC1 regulation, and (3) epigenetic inheritance mediated by histone chaperones at high-resolution. We attempt to understand critical protein-protein interactions using a combination of biochemistry, electron microscopy, and x-ray crystallography.

A qualified candidate should hold or soon expected to hold (within ~1yr) Ph.D. in the area of crystallography, cryo-EM, or biophysics and have experiences in basic molecular biology and protein expression/purification. Experience in x-ray crystallography or cryo-EM is desired but not necessary.
